the golden gate

i love driving over the golden gate.  i always feel like this is where i belong when i see it.  it makes me take a deep breath and look around at where i live and where i come from.  there are few things in this world made by man that make the landscape more beautiful...the golden gate is one of them.

Legion of Honor

i went to the legion of honor in San Francisco yesterday to see the "Pissaro's People" show.  It was so interesting seeing how Pissaro lived with his family in the countryside of France.  They told Pissaro's story very well and the paintings were great to see in person.  The detail is something that you will never see in a print or a book.  It was well worth the visit, and I got to take some great pictures of the surrounding area as well.

i love me some instagram

Yesterday, I went into San Francisco for work and spent some time gazing out the windows from the 12th floor.  I am always fascinated by everyone's lives that walk by below me.  They are unaware that of my gaze, just as I am unaware of someone else's when I walk the streets below.

I have recently discovered the Instagram App for the iPhone and it has the ability to take some mundane pictures, and through the use of filters, turn them into some awesome images.

Here are a few that I took yesterday from the many windows of this beautiful city.  It leaves me in awe every time I visit, and leaves me with desire to go back when I leave it.

dark side of the lens.

DARK SIDE OF THE LENS from Astray Films on Vimeo.

The cinema photography in this video is amazing.  Check it out, let me know what you think.

Good friends and tidepools.

Yesterday C's best friend from school came out to the coast to go tide pooling with us.  We just live a few blocks away from one of the best tide pools on the west coast.  When the tide is really low you can walk right out onto the reef and see all different types of ecosystems just a few steps away from each other.   We loved watching all of the drama unfold in each little pool that we came upon.  We were there towards the end of the day so the visibility was not as good as we would have liked, but it was wonderful to see the sun set over the ocean.

This is a baby sea star that was pointed out to us by another visitor.  It was only about the size of a quarter.  I've never seen a tiny little sea star before.  Every time we go out to the tide pools we see something that we have never seen before and the landscape is always different.  Every experience is new because the tides are always changing.

We are so lucky to live so close to this wonderful part of nature.  Not everyone gets to experience this once let alone live right next to it.  I hope that C will learn a great deal from the opportunity that he has living in such close proximity to all of these wonderful animals.

a beautiful store...

hey there!  it's been a while, of course, but i thought i would drop in to mention this beautiful store that I have known about for some time now and wanted to share with you.  Herriot Grace and her father make beautiful wood cake plates, bowls, spoons, pastry flags, cheese plates, and pastry cutters among many other things.  She styles her products so beautifully with wonderful mini cakes that I would love to sit in front of and consume.

She also has a wonderful blog that just makes me yearn for the setting that she has laid out for us.  She is so inspiring, and I hope to be able to create something as beautiful as she has.

creek walk

yesterday c & c and i went for a walk up the creek from the ocean.  the landscapes were amazing and the overcast sky created some beautiful lighting.  part of the walk felt like the desert and other parts were marsh landscapes.  we saw many different types of birds, plants and even a couple of sea lions basking on the shore.  one even made it about a mile up the creek from the ocean, and we caught him spying on us throughout our walk.

after our hike we went into Pescadero to eat at Duarte's Tavern.  this is a great highway 1 staple restaurant with the best artichoke soup and homemade sourdough i've ever had.  it can be a little pricey, but it doesn't hurt to splurge once and a while.
