what i'm reading

i found this book on the internet somewhere and put it on a wish list.  it's called settled in the wild by susan hand shetterly.  it is one of the best books i have read.  it made me so emotional and brought back the yearning for nature and the outdoors.  she is so well educated on the flora and fauna around her, and the writing style is so beautiful and inspirational.  i am so happy that she wrote this book and i think i will keep it around and read it from time to time for years to come.

if you get a chance, pick this one up and keep it by your bedside at all times.

pinterest

just discovered this awesome site called pinterest.  it seems as though they are still in experimental mode because you have to request an invitation to join and then they send you an email saying that you are on a waiting list to sign up.  but, you don't have to be a member to look around at all of the fab images that people are posting.  here are a few examples...

i could wander on here for hours and often have to pinch myself to walk away from all the beautiful images that are posted on the internet.  all images here are found on pinterest and have been posted through different blogs and flickr accounts.  if you have a little time and maybe a cup of tea in front of you, then stop by and plan to stay awhile.

more bay photos

i went over to the levy with C & C yesterday and took some more pictures of the bay.  the full moon was rising over the mountains to the east and the colors were amazing.  i can't imagine what this area would be like without the bay to experience.  i also took some pictures with my medium format camera, and i can't wait to develop those to see what came out.  i will post those as soon as i get my lazy butt over to the camera shop.  until then, i hope you enjoy the bay as much as i do.

help haiti

just wanted to remind everyone that haiti is still in really bad shape, and although we are coming up on the one year anniversary, it seems like we still need a little reminder of what others might be going through.  this t-shirt is being sold by fretto prints with all of the proceeds going to the struggle in haiti and the partners in health. (www.pih.org)  and, it's a pretty cute shirt to boot.

chocolate anyone?

while wandering through all of the fun websites and blogs that i like to check every day, i found this wonderful chocolate company called mast brothers chocolate.  i have to say that this is the most awesome chocolate making duo i have ever run across.  they are two brothers out of brooklyn with an old style hands on making style.  they personally buy all of the cacao from abroad and bring it back to the states to make some friggin awesome chocolate.  each bar is hand wrapped as well.

this video introduces the brothers and their process for making chocolate.  gotta love hipsters making chocolate.  their website enables you to buy the bars directly from them, but they also have a list of places that you can go pick this wonderful goodness up in person.  i have tried the 72% madagascar bar and although it is strong, it tastes great.

need for a little sun...

every january, i get the need to go someplace where there is a little more sun and warmth. i know that i don't have to deal with the snow and ice like many out there but winter can still drone on even in san francisco.  so what better than this wonderful island paradise in greece.  the hotel perivolas is to die and i can't think of a better place to go to get away from all this cold and gray.  this place has got to be a pretty penny, but when i find myself dreaming money is no object.

so for now, i will dream of the day that i may make it to this greek island paradise, and settle for the idea that at least i don't live in 6 feet of snow.

a little hike...

christmas was a perfect time for a little walk in the woods.  we went to a great park outside san diego and had great time and we had the area all to ourselves. hikes in the winter are so quiet and beautiful.

rad boots.

these boots from madewell are super awesome.  i am all about boots right now and i can't seem to get enough of them all.  i especially go for the ones that are made right here in the good old USA and these hit the spot perfectly.  madewell is a company that started decades ago in massachusetts and is still there making some kick ass clothes and shoes. i suggest checking them out, but be prepared to like everything.

this blazer is the cutest as well.  looking to add a few more pieces to my closet and this would be perfect.  they also have a video that explains their denim/jeans making process.  you can check that out here. enjoy!

till next time....

some good ass music.

lately i feel as though all the music in my library has been getting old, and it all seems to sound the same sometimes.  i am in need of some good ass music in my life, and with a little bit of awesomeness over at NPR they have turned me onto The Black Keys - "I Got Mine".  This song rocks the house and all of their other stuff is great as well.  the band consists of two dudes with long hair from Akron Ohio.  they combine an old rock and roll feel with a new twist.  love it!

another band that i have recently become obsessed with is mumford and sons.  they are four from london and create a killer old timey country sound that you might mistake for the south, until you hear their accents.  this is one of my favorite songs and the video is awesome too.

hope you enjoy.  i plan on posting some interior spaces and etsy artists this week, so stay tuned.

cheers!

sf bay

i have started a new series of photos centered around the sf bay and all its loveliness.  i was inspired by the documentary called "Saving the Bay" which is narrated by robert redford.  the documentary goes into great detail about the history of the san francisco bay and how it has been saved on several occasions from being completely filled in.  this seems to be a constant battle even today and i don't think that we should ever turn our backs for a minute on the developers of the area.

the bay has inspired me to get out and take more pictures, and my plan is to continue to document different areas of the waterfront to remind myself how important it is to keep our earth in tact.
